The best tip I can give is to stay within a short walk of a metro station. If you can find reasonably priced accommodation, I’d go for the 7th Arrondissement or in Le Marais. The 7th is a typically Parisian but touristy neighbourhood close to some of the main sights. It doesn’t have loud nightlife and it feels totally safe.
