One of my great friends lives in Tampa and is a transmission tech at a huge Ford dealership. He thinks the latest gen 10 speeds are bad. He says they keep his team uber busy with problems. The 10 speed is new and the 6 speed has been used since 2010. 10 speed is 3.5 EcoBoost only for 2017. For 2018 the 10 speed will be standard with the 2.7 EB, 3.5 EB and 5.0 V8. Only the base non turbo 3.3 V6 gets a 6 speed for 2018. The 6 speed has been an outstanding and reliable unit. The 10 speed has had a good first year.The service manager said they compared it to another brand new 7.3/10 speed and it makes the same noises. Claims it normal occurrence for a vehicle with a 1 piece driveshaft. I feel they are avoiding the inevitable and trust dragging this out. If it were a driveshaft noise it would be in every gear not specific ones.
