Factorio city block size

the nilaus block is a port square big and too small to fit anything more then a 1-1 train with stations inside the block. its also 3 chunks across due to the radar coverage range. you cpuld shrink it by removing a section of large poles but it would be too small for anything outside bot managed areas if you want anything actually productive. 3.

The small size is a challenge but a rewarding one - making new prints that fit in 100x100 feels great. And I'm already in too deep with this block size haha. I've been making a litany of blueprints for 100x100.Increased the stack size of roboport from 5 to 10. 0.16.0: Roboports now provide the repair packs they have for other robots to use. 0.15.6: Increased roboport construction range to 55 (110×110 area) to make roboports able to build each other without interconnecting their logistic areas, and not break when there are obstacles like trees or rocks.

Some time ago I even built a 90 spm factory with a main bus surrounded by the factories and the railways like Nilaus did in his great videos. But I decided to learn train city block approach on smaller blocks.

One can chain this block for iron to get a steel production block (delivers 3.3 blue belts of steel) The delivery of ore can run on an independent rail line, without intersecting with other rail lines. Typically a city block is expanded by one great bot network. Using bots to build everything from a distance. There's two huge drawbacks of city block bases: You are space constrained. Typically train networks are limited to 1-4-0 trains while on unconstrained bases 2-8-0 trains are very commonI wanted to get everyone's opinions on how they prefer to layout their train tracks within city blocks. For example, I use 96x96 blocks and use the middle chunk for either 2 or 4 lanes of tracks. I imagine the answers will be quite different based on block size. Solutions for small blocks (96x96 or 100x100), medium (200x200) and large blocks ...It's probably just me, but in my opinion I think the whole city block thing is barking up the wrong tree. Instead of these entire blocks you can just design an absolute grid position set of rails, with turns, intersections, straights, 2->4, 4->2, etc and build the "blocks" as needed to the size they need.

My city blocks come in a nice 120x118 in size, almost but not quite perfectly square. I went through three major iterations of the track layout, with the oldest being in the top left corner of the main base and the newest being anything lower and rightward. The city block creation in K2 doesn't seem different than in vanilla to me. I'm not an expert, but I firstly made chunk-aligned rail blueprint book (straight and 3-way intersection, my hexagons don't need 4-way). Since the maximum distance between poles is one chunk, they are easily rotatable. I used them to create a block, adding a 3-way ...I don't think deadlocks are a main problem in this design specifically - I don't see how they'd happen outside of extremely unlikely circumstances. Like two trains going through intersection from opposite directions both get rerouted to left turns at exact same time, or approach it for left turn at exact same moment.. The throughput well below that of bog-standard 2-lane system is the issue.
