As for grade deflation, I think that is mostly just people complaining. I haven't had that issue. If you want to see the historic data on the grade distribution for each class Google "Berkeley time" it's a website that has all of the grades for each class from previous semesters. Cal's blog published an article last year on grade deflation. There's even a nice graph that shows avg grades by university. It admits, "The fact remains that UC Berkeley students are getting fewer A’s than their counterparts at private institutions."
