If youth sport is to embody sportsmanship and ethical standards, all stakeholders (parents. spectators, coaches, athletes, youth clubs/schools, sports physicians, and the local community ...Against that background, this paper explores whether the use of animals in competitive sport is ever justifiable from the perspective of three commonly used ethical theories: deontology, utilitarianism and virtue ethics. In so doing, it recognises the importance of human understanding of animals as sentient beings.‘Sports Ethics is a cleverly compiled anthology that clearly addresses the main issues facing sport today. Previously published classical arguments by highly respected sport philosophers are augmented by ten new articles written specifically for this anthology.Finding the right balance is an ethical obligation – and challenge.
