Hi, I do have the same problem in my I-797A. I applied for an extension of stay for my B1/B2 visa, it got denied so applied for a motion to reopen and reconsider my case. Decision of approval came 16 months after my I-94 expired. I had one amendment in feb-2017 and got the i-797 approved with validity till Visa end date . In i-797 the same i-94 number is mentioned with validity till visa end date. I have renewed my passport after this.
