A community-based organization is an organization that provides services within or on behalf of young people within their community. Youth serving community-based organizations typically operate in a non-classroom based environment. Some examples are mentoring groups, youth leaderships groups, after school programs, and recreational programs.Programs work with families to mobilize formal and informal resources to support family development, and advocate with families for services and systems that are fair, responsive and accountable to the families served. Community-based programs model a strengths-based approach in all activities, including planning, governance and administration.
