In that it seems that you desire to keep the open sights as a back up for the scope, why worry about QD rings. From what you stated you will not be going back and forth at a moment's notice but only if the the scope fails. I've thought about D&T the receiver for a Williams peep (I happen to have one sittinin around too) and I know about the Steve's Guns/Skinner peep that goes into the safety hole on the bolt.Coach there is another option. I know Williams makes a peep sight for your '92. It does require drilling and tapping two holes but it is a nice looking sight and any Gun Smith or decent machine shop should be able to do that for you. The other alternative, and it reeks of Cowboy action shooting, is a Tang sight. ….
