I recently did the same grind (72-92 mining at gems). Cut and crafted the diamonds, rubies and emeralds into amulets, sapphires into rings. Also used up all the topaz and bit less than half the jade. If you are far from a glory I would still mine some for the red topaz early, but save any significant gem rocks grind for post Glory. Also the diary makes a massive difference so I would reccomend going for that if you plan to mine a lot of gem rocks.
