Aluminum smitty sled
Have a few questions about the Smitty sled. There's 2 2X4 braces running sideways across the skis. Beneath the notched out portion appears to be washer and nut?? Not sure what it is and what's its function. May be a dumb question but does the sled you're hauling around; what keeps it from falling off this thing. The for any helpful info. W.Built a new smitty sled last weekend and put together the otter cottage. Shes all ready to go. Spent a little time figuring out the best way to get my auger, big buddy, flasher, tackle, seat and other items in the sled and must say it's a challenge to get it all in the cottage sled but I think I found a way that will work.

Fits in the back of my GMC Sierra, barely. I am making a smitty sled for it. From what I have seen its 100 times easier to pull plus easier to load as you can pull the front up, rest it on the skis in the back and push it up. I see if that is true. Pulling a tub sled on light snow coverage is OK, but when the snow gets deeper the tub starts to plow the snow in front of it and the pull becomes difficult. Anytime there is snow on the ice use a Smitty sled. I recommend using 10" high risers instead of the 6" high ones.
