Follow the step-by-step instructions, tips, and warnings for this intermediate plumbing project. Remove the Shower Valve Escutcheon. The escutcheon is fastened with two long screws – just remove the screws to take off trim plate. Notice the word “Monitor” embossed on the escutcheon which helped me identify the shower valve as a Delta Monitor 1300/1400 series: The shower valve escutcheon and two long screws.Remove the cover plate of the handle and take it off. 4. Remove the valve cover. 5. Use the socket wrench to take the shower valve out. 6. Install the new valve. 7. Reinstall the valve cover and handle.On the inside of the shower, replace the spindle and tighten it in place. Slide the cap over the spindle and tighten it. Then, place the new cover plate over the shower valve, line up the diverter valve, and tighten it in place with the supplied screws. Install the handle. Turn the water back on and check for leaks.

Put some grease on the replacement cartridge and carefully work it back into the valve. Put the small clip back in to hold the new cartridge in place. Add a bead of silicone and a foam bead around the back of the escutcheon plate to make a watertight seal. Screw the cover plate and the shower handle back into place. Turn the water back on.
